Latex Facts
Benefits Of Latex
A ‘proper’ Latex Mattresses does not have any springs. They are made from a block of latex rubber which is derived from the sap of the rubber tree.
The advantages of our Latex Mattresses are numerous.
- Extremely long life: Will maintain their shape and feel for many years.
- Very Supportive: Moulding to the contours of the body latex provides outstanding support.
- Pressure Point Relief: The structure of latex can help reduce pressure points. They are often recommended by health professionals for being a natural pressure reliever.
- Allergies: Inherently anti-microbial and anti-dustmite a lot of customers buy our latex mattresses to help with dust-mite related allergies.
- Reduced Partner Disturbance: The open cell structure of latex results in very little movement being felt from one side of the mattress to the other.
- Tailored Comfort and Support: Using our Pod technology a different feel can be created on each side of the mattress to cater for the ‘Venus and Mars’. If one partner wants the mattress firmer than the other we have products especially designed to cater for this.
- Natural, Renewable Resource: Rubber Trees can grow for around 25 years, producing latex sap for most of that time. they are great for the environment producing oxygen and thousands of jobs for people in developing countries.
- Non-Toxic: All of our latex comes from a European company, who have the highest European certification for the products being safe for babies and children.
- Latex Does Not Conduct Electricity: In this electrically charged world some of our customers are buying latex to get away from the electrical conductivity of an innerspring mattress. House wiring, wi-fi, portable devices etc are all things that increase electro-magnetics around the bedroom. Latex does not conduct and therefore could be considered a healthier haven to escape the 21st century…
At Pure Latex Mattress we have many styles of Latex Core Mattresses with firmer or softer support and we are confident we will have a mattress to suit your needs.

Caring For Your Mattress
-
Flipping and Turning:
Normally a mattress will go through a period of ‘settling’ when it is first being used where the comfort layers which include the outer fabric, fibre and foams compress. To help spread the ware and minimise ‘settling’ it is important to rotate your mattress regularly. We recommend rotating, and or flipping your mattress every 2 weeks in the initial stages and then every 3 months throughout its life.If regular rotation is not done there is a likelihood the mattress will develop ‘Body Impressions’ which are larger depressions in your mattress. These can be greater or less depending on the quality, density and thickness of the comfort layers. Broadly speaking the thicker and softer the comfort layers, the greater the body impression will develop over time. -
Mattress Protector:
To prevent staining of the mattress a mattress protector must be used. Keeping stains away from your mattress will help with both the hygiene and longevity of your mattress. -
Slat Bases:
If your mattress is going onto a slat base we recommend a fabric barrier between the two to prevent snagging and splinters from the timber slats damaging your mattress. Examples could be a mattress protector, sheet or blanket. -
Dust Reduction:
Occasional vacuuming or airing your mattress is recommended to help reduce dust or particles that may filter through your bed linen. -
General Maintenance:
Do not stand or jump on the mattress. Do not bend an innerspring mattress. It is not recommended to regularly sit on the edge of the mattress as it can cause the border to sag over time.
How Are Our Mattresses Made?
There are five key stages used in making our latex, which follows the ‘Dunlopillo’ production process:
- Latex Sap Extraction: Tapping the rubber tree to bleed and collect the latex sap.
- Latex Foam: The latex is mixed with air to create a foam consistency. The amount of air added to the mix will determine whether the latex is a soft, medium or firmer feel.
- Vulcanisation (Baking): The latex foam is poured into a stainless steel mould and sealed. it is then baked in a slow revolving oven to turn the latex foam into a solid latex core.
- Wash-off: After the core has cooled, it is released from the steel mould and washed in a soap and water cleaning mix.
- Quality Control: Quality inspection occurs as well as density testing to ensure the latex passes the high European standards set by Latexco.
